MORNING COFFEE ANYONE?

For December, I committed to producing a small character animation each week—something manageable, fun, and focused, while I prepare to dive into CGDive’s intermediate rigging course in January. The Coffee Bean character was actually a happy accident. I originally generated a quick concept through AI just to use as a mug decal for my My Fun! project, but the little guy had so much unexpected charm that I couldn’t resist bringing him to life.

This animation became an opportunity to focus on body language, micro-expressions, and subtle emotional timing. I wanted him to feel expressive without overcomplicating the design. The annoyed text chain chiming over his shoulder added the perfect narrative hook—he’s clearly not in the mood for anyone or anything until he’s had that first sip of coffee.

It’s a simple idea, but the personality that emerged made the whole piece feel alive.
